We all love music. Therefore, our mission is to re-play music exactly as it was recorded. To create music systems that can preserve and present the full dimension of passion in any kind of music.

This has never been possible before due to the limitations of traditional audio systems. That is why "reproduction of music" has become a universal phrase in the hi-fi world. Even the most expensive audio systems affect the colour, the timbre, the immaculate and invaluable emotion of the music. It has been changed and is no longer original. Thus the expression "re-production of music", which actually means copying. Traditional audio systems inevitably add their own "flavour". But the original passion in music cannot be "re-produced".

What we have to say about Lyngdorf Regardless of what make of hifi or home cinema you use, its performance will be far from accurate due to the following three issues.

1. Analogue Distortion & Noise

For 20 years we have been enjoying CD’s and the sonic benefits of digital sources. The complete absence of background noise that CD/DVD provides has removed one of the obstacles between the performance and the listener.

What is remarkable is that the hifi and home cinemas we use to play these digital sources are still analogue and so create noise and colouration that compromise the quality of our digital recordings.

Just how much colouration is being added by Digital to Analogue conversion and analogue amplification is obvious when you hear a recording you are familiar with played on a complete digital system.

When the signal is kept in the digital domain throughout the electronics, far less is added or taken away to your music. Comparing all digital systems against semi digital or analogue alternatives is like comparing CD to tape.

2. Speaker Room Interaction

One of the most effective methods of tuning a hifi is by repositioning the speakers. Most people would agree that the best layout is to create an equilateral triangle with the speakers and listener, with the loudspeakers placed 12-24” off the rear wall.

While this may be the perfect location for speakers reproducing mid and high frequencies, this placement creates significant problems for low frequencies.

As low frequencies leave a speaker in all directions, the direct sounds that you hear from your speakers will always be accompanied by the sound that has left the rear of the speaker and has been reflected back off the rear wall. This echo blurs the initial signal and as it is delayed, also spoils your systems timing.

Percussion for example is simply not realistic because of your speakers’ location.

3. Room Acoustics

An increase of 6db sounds twice as loud to us. Most quality speakers are designed to reproduce sound within a 6db tolerance, which means that in a perfect room, with very good speakers one note should sound no more than twice as loud as the next.

Unfortunately the perfect listening does not exist and most rooms will create variations of more than 20db. With a hifi reproducing a musician playing the scales on the drums, with a 20db variance – one drum would sound more than four times louder the next.

The changes that a room’s acoustics make mean that even the best hifi and home cinemas in the best acoustic spaces are far from accurate.

CD-1 CD player

The CD-1 is a pure CD transport/player designed with the best design techniques and components possible. Used with any of the Lyngdorf amplifiers, the CD-1 provides the sort of unsurpassed performance that only comes from complementing components.

The CD-1 is designed with all the experience gained from designing the Lyngdorf digital amplifier products.

Low-noise design techniques are applied to carefully upsample the digital output. The digital output is available in SPDIF, Toslink or AES format.

The D/A converter section is the same as in the legendary Millennium amplifier and it is being used to drive a high quality, single-ended and balanced output stage.

The intuitive push-to-enter user interface is used for daily operation such as play, pause, skip etc. but also for more sophisticated use such as setting all parameters of the CD-1, e.g. sample rate or the level of the audio signal output.

All operations can be of course accessed with the included remote control which also operates the Lyngdorf amplifiers.

And if you have a Lyngdorf true digital amplifier you can shut down all analog sections to turn the CD-1 into a transport only to obtain the best possible performance from the CD-1.

RP-1 Stand-Alone RoomPerfect Device

DP-1 Dipole Speakers

The DP-1 is a true little jewel. This elegant and slim line floorstanding dipole loudspeaker will deliver midrange and treble with an effortlessness and musicality you have never heard before.

The DP-1 is intended to be used in a Lyngdorf 2+2 set-up – where you combine it with a BassDirect speaker to deliver the bass.

When we started developing the DP-1 we took a serious look into one of the largest problem for loudspeakers – the cabinet itself – and simply removed it. The speaker cabinet was originally invented as an easy way of obtaining deep bass from a small speaker system. But a cabinet is resonant and vibrant and thus makes a lot of unwanted contribution to the sound. Therefore, the cabinet advantage of extended bass has severe costs in degradation of all the octaves above, especially the upper bass and midrange. And since we did not need bass from the DP-1 the choice was easy.

Furthermore, the air inside a cabinet works like a ‘spring’ attached to the cone and like a real spring actually works as a mechanical ‘brake’, holding back the driver unit when it starts to move. This actually drains energy from the drive units which obviously compromises dynamics, attack and precision.

The new Lyngdorf DP-1 speakers have no cabinet, just a stylish front baffle on which the drivers are mounted. This – in combination with the selection of some of the best drivers available – results is an extremely open, detailed and dynamic musicality completely free from traditional cabinet-induced smear and coloration.
