Overview i.e. what the makers say – in general

"L A T International, Inc. was founded in 1989 as a high-end wire and cable company. We brought with us design, manufacturing technology and experience obtained at other companies with whom we were associated and where we learned that high-end wire and cable can be designed, developed, and manufactured to sell at price levels considerably lower than our competitors have traditionally charged!

We continually replace mega priced cables with ours. our growth and customer satisfaction has been dramatic and due primarily through word of mouth recommendations from friend to friend."

What the makers say about their AC-2 power cord

"Our Finest Power Cord. Anyone who is knowledgeable of power cords in the High-End industry and is also knowledgeable of those that receive great recommendations, will, I am sure, know of the reputation of our original AC-2 Power Cord. We have been working since February (2006) trying to develop a better one; (no easy task!).We had to be certain that any upgrade would be an upgrade in all areas of performance: clarity, focus, dynamics, inner detail, harmonic accuracy and of course, it must be musical. After this period of time (and some midnight oil,) we did it!!

The ten gauge AC-2 MK II is truly an outstanding power cord. Take advantage of our 45-day trial period. You won't be disappointed.

The design and construction improvements are in two specific areas: The weaving geometry for the Mark IIs is done with a planetary cabler. This weaving machine, which allows engineers more freedom in designing more complex and more effective weaving geometries, also produces a much more accurate and consistent weaving geometry. Accuracy and consistency from foot to foot is essential to replicate and realise the benefits of the theoretical ‘on paper’ design.

The process is much more labour intensive, primarily in the set up for the production run, and in monitoring during the run. Consequently, it is more expensive to produce. Our weaving geometry and the 260% shielding coverage we use for isolating the conductors, provides for elimination of RF, EMI and other "Garbage" disturbances that your house wiring and power company has picked up along the way.

Additionally, we use PTFE Teflon in most all of our cables; however, the insulation we are using for this new cable, while it is purchased as PTFE Teflon, we are modifying it during the wire manufacturing process. Again, a little more costly. Our modification to the PTFE Teflon insulation allows for substantial reduction of the signal discharge back into the metal conductor. Explanation: All insulations covering a metal wire will absorb a portion of the signal as it flows through the metal wire. That signal will discharge back into the metal wire, although it is delayed by a small fraction of time. This discharge back smears the real time current wave form that is passing through resulting in small but discernable distortion.

We continue to use our proprietary Silverfuse alloy conductor material."

Termination options re AC-2 power cord

At the wall end you can specify:

At the equipment end you can specify:

Pin plating:

Brass, Silver or Gold. Please see explanatory note below.

To our ears, on a wide range of equipment, the difference we can hear between any two identical lengths of either of the two levels of construction is very slight indeed.

So, this begs the question: why offer alternative plating options?

Simply because during the run-up to commissioning the prototypes, people in the main said they’d like the option to choose. Like an idiot though, I forgot to ask then which of the three plating options they were most likely to choose! Ho hum.

What the makers say about their interconnects

IC-200 Mark II: Ultra High-End Audio Interconnect

"The IC-200 MARK II takes advantage of silver in its design through use of our proprietary Silverfuse conductors. The IC-200 MK II has multiple conductors that are solid core and individually insulated with Teflon; the best insulation available.

We have developed a shielding system that is completely independent of the signal carrying conductors. This ensures that no RF or EMI gets into the signal – dead quiet background. We have also included a heavy-duty outer jacket to protect the interior and to also prevent against sharp bending of the cable. We have found that cables that do not have this additional protection, if bent too sharply, can be susceptible to sustaining small fissures (cracks) in the conductor which, over a period of time; degrade the performance of the cable. This is one of the reasons that used cable gets into the used cable market. Performance has deteriorated and usually the former owner does not realise why. This is especially true of cables that use a mesh cloth as their only outer protection. (Mesh cloth outer coverings are a sign of a hand made cable. See our Cable Hype page concerning the problems with hand made cables).

We use Locking RCA connectors. These connectors have bodies that are machined rather than stamped out of sheet metal. They are snug-fitting to prevent accidental falling out and provide the best possible electrical connection. There are some similarities to the IC-100 MK II such as use of our Silverfuse conductors insulated with, PTFE Teflon, Silverfuse shields and the same high quality locking connectors); however, the most significant difference is that the IC-200 MARK II has multiple smaller gauge conductors for improved handling of skin effect.

How does the IC-200 MK II perform? It is designed to be perfectly neutral without emphasising any portion of the frequency range. Sound stage, transparency, openness and fidelity of timbre are, we believe, unequalled by our competition. Our customers agree and tell us this cable is the equal of any cable on the market and exceeds most others in performance regardless of price. See customer reviews at audioreview Please note that a version of this cable is also available for turn tables. See our model TA-200 MK II.

We recommend choosing our new non-locking RCA that has significantly reduced mass. It is slim and sleek. There is even a saddle in the middle that reduces the amount of mass. We are finding it provides a significant improvement over locking and other bulky plugs. The low mass (of metal) principal we believe was originally created by Eichmann who make the fine Bullet RCA connector. Our president, personally prefers this plug over even our own excellent locking plug."

What the makers say about their loudspeaker cables

SS800 Mk2: Close in Performance to Our Top of the Line SS-1000 MK II

"We have developed a new speaker cable that is a significant improvement over the SS-800. Named the SS-800 MK II, this 12 gauge cable represents an ambitious effort to make this improvement and still stay in an affordable price bracket. We believe we have achieved our goal. We know that we will get a lot of e-mail from people asking in what way it is superior to the standard 800 version. (We expect to hear the same from our new SS-1000 MK II cable).

While the performance is improved virtually overall, the most prevalent are in dynamics, focus, inner detail, and harmonic accuracy – and most important, it is enjoyably musical! These improvements are attributable to design/construction changes. The improvements are in two specific areas: The weaving geometry for the Mark IIs is done with a planetary cabler. This weaving machine, which allows engineers more freedom in designing more complex and more effective weaving geometries

This process also produces a much more accurate and consistent weaving geometry. Accuracy and consistency from foot to foot is essential to replicate and realise the benefits of the theoretical "on paper" design. The process is much more labour intensive, primarily in the set up for the production run, and in monitoring during the run. Consequently, it is more expensive to produce.

Although the weaving geometry is not as sophisticated as in the top of the line SS-1000 MK II, it is sufficiently sophisticated in that it aids in providing performance close to that to the SS-1000 MK II.

Additionally, we use PTFE Teflon in most all of our cables; however, the insulation we are using for our four new cables, while it is purchased as PTFE Teflon, we are modifying it during the wire manufacturing process.

This discharge back smears the real time signal that is passing through resulting in small but discernable distortion.

We continue to use an effective shielding system as we do in all our cables. We know of no other speaker cable manufacturer that includes a shielding system. Noise that you never realised was there disappears yielding a dead quiet background. The SS-1000 MK II also takes advantage of silver in its design through use of our proprietary Silverfuse conductors. The conductors are 12 gauge, insulated with a version of Teflon (modified to our specifications); resulting in the best insulation available.

The cabling (weaving) pattern is proprietary and optimal to match the other parameters of design of the cable. It is polypropylene-filled, and in conjunction with the polypropylene, contains an anti-static, anti-vibration barrier. Our prices include preparation with top quality gold-plated connectors of your choice. How does this cable perform? A significant step above the prior version – perfectly neutral without emphasising any portion of the frequency range. It has a wide and deep sound stage and excels in transparency and fidelity of timbre.

We are confident that our customers will adopt this cable as the new standard of excellence.

We continue to use our proprietary Silverfuse alloy conductor material."

What we have to say about LAT

I was wondering what to say when I came across this testimonial on the importer’s site. It pretty much sums up my own views. And so here it is:

"I have received it yesterday, Tuesday.

Simply put, the IC-300 Signature is the Best Interconnect I ever had the pleasure to listen to! Neutral, transparent and dynamic, everything that an audio cable should be... When you take into account the moderate pricing, it is hard to phantom why would anyone want to spend anymore on the likes of Nordost, JPS, Cardas, Kimber Select and all the other over-hyped, over-priced snake oil brands that the audio idiots community love so much! Real music lovers need not look elsewhere, the LAT IC-300 Signature is all they will ever need. A truly outstanding audio product.

Thank you gain and best regards"
